REC believes curriculum changes will aid future IT recruitment
16/01/2012 15:23:12 (Europe/London)
Leaders at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) believe that sweeping changes to the school curriculum will eventually benefit the IT recruitment industry.
Chair of REC Technology - the body that represents IT recruitment agencies - Jeff Brooks feels the current system makes it difficult for firms to find IT experts with the requisite skills to add value to their enterprise.
However, education secretary Michael Gove has announced that youngsters who choose to study ICT will soon be taught more "hard skills" that are transferable to the industry itself.
Mr Brooks said there is a clear skills shortage in the computing sector throughout the UK, although the fact this has now been recognised by the government is encouraging.
"It is getting harder every year for IT recruiters to find new, talented candidates to supply to the industry," he remarked.
Last week, a study by research organisation High Fliers showed that more companies are keen to hire graduates, with the number of IT roles in particular set to grow by 31.6 per cent in 2012.
