Cloud computing 'having a big effect on IT security'
Date: 09/01/2012 13:11:16 (Europe/London)
More and more IT professionals are seeing cloud computing change the way their firms protect their computer systems, it has been claimed.
Security editor at Techworld John Dunn said that instead of running all anti-virus products on their own networks, companies are buying security layers from cloud computing specialists.
He stated that this trend is gathering pace among internet security specialists such as Kaspersky Lab and AVG, although larger organisations like McAfee and Symantec have been a little slow to embrace the concept thus far.
Mr Dunn added that in some instances, cloud-based security packages are already the norm and more businesses are recognising the benefits that they can bring.
"Security filtering is being turned into a real-time cloud service bought by consumers, small businesses and even larger businesses," he remarked.
A recent study by Wanted Analytics indicated that cloud computing skills are increasingly in demand in the US in particular, as there has been a 61 per cent year-on-year increase in hiring demand among IT specialists who have such expertise.
