IT experts could benefit from smartphone market growth
09/02/2012 14:44:17 (Europe/London)
Demand for IT specialists with expertise in mobile device integration is rising as smartphone uptake skyrockets.
As the global smartphone market matures, penetration of high-tech mobile devices has increased, rising by 54.7 per cent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2011.
According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), the huge growth was higher than its original forecast of 40 per cent and shows that mobile technology is becoming an unstoppable force in modern IT.
Ramon Llamas, senior research analyst with IDC's Mobile Phone Technology and Trends team, said: "By the end of the quarter, one out of every three mobile phones shipped worldwide was a smartphone."
Evan Kaplan, president and chief executive officer of iPass, recently claimed that the use of mobile technology was verging on addiction for many, but noted that IT specialists were putting in 240 hours of extra work each year on the devices when compared to their non-mobile counterparts.
It is this boost in productivity that is causing many IT experts to consider adopting 'bring your own device' policies.
