Government invites IT specialists to join procurement list
09/02/2012 14:28:43 (Europe/London)
The UK government has invited IT specialists to join its nationwide ICT procurement framework.
Suppliers from across the UK are expected to join the £4 billion network, which covers a huge array of technologies from desktops and tablets to servers and cloud storage.
It will service a plethora of government departments, encouraging them to work collectively with IT experts to promote and develop the use of IT.
Three tech firms will join the scheme for the provision of desktop client devices - including mice, keyboards and memory. Four suppliers are being sought for laptop-related procurement, while five tablet specialists will join.
Storage and network switching technology will be provided by six separate suppliers, while five firms will be responsible for the government's printing requirements.
As well as central government departments, the procurement framework will cover organisations affiliated with Whitehall - such as NHS bodies, local authorities and other agencies.
In Scotland, IT procurement also remains top of the agenda, with the country investing heavily in cutting-edge internet infrastructure.
