Power Electronics Engineer

Hybrid working

Location: Guildford (Outside IR35)

Rate -£50 per hour

My client is looking for an engineer who will be responsible for testing and optimising the board, to make it ready for system-level testing.

The successful candidate will mainly be working with the design engineer of the board, discussing issues and ideas for optimisation, however the expectation will be that the candidate will be able to understand the design and ideally offer suggestions for improvements.

The successful candidate will be confident using common lab equipment and be able to use this, to verify the board meets the requirement specification.

It is likely the engineer will need to model test observations through simulations and be able to provide suggestions for component selections and improvements.

I have listed below a brief outline of the required experience needed.

  • An experienced design engineer specialising in switching mode power supply systems
  • Familiar with common flyback, forward topology
  • Good understanding of power supply control loops, transformer design and electronics components
  • Familiarity with at least one EDA design tool chain and circuit simulation software. For info we use the Mentor suite at MSSL
  • A good understanding of spacecraft grounding and noise control schemes
  • Familiar with common lab equipment eg. oscilloscope, DVM, PSU and able to operate HV supplies safely
  • Ability to accurately and thoroughly document testing and development work for other engineers to follow and understand
  • Be able to present results and analysis to a team of non-experts
