My client are Cheltenham-based software house founded back in 1989 which provides a business management portal to exam boards and awarding bodies, also providing bespoke database application development services across a number of sectors.

The product supports the core business functions and is a portal style solution which can be used by internal staff, and with its sophisticated security structure enables any function can be made available to centres, assessors, and external users, it is the only fully web based award organisation management system with such an extensive range of functions.

I have worked collaboratively with this company over the last couple of years helping them add to their IT department, and continue to work with them closely building on an exclusive working relationship.

They currently require someone within a unique role combining the following wide-ranging scope of skills to join them, your experience may have previously seen you work as a business analyst, project manager or consultant or possibly even a software developer.

This is a unique opportunity to join a company where the owners are looking to take a step back into retirement in the next few years with the view of having someone come in and take the lead on current and future projects.

The role - Project / Business Analyst Manager

Location - Cheltenham - Hybrid

Salary - £50k - £60k flexible

Responsibilities include:

  • Project management/tracking in terms of man-days (not commercial)
  • Business analysis and customer liaison
  • Gain in-depth knowledge of our market-leading product
  • Scoping studies / requirements analysis / product gap analysis
  • Understanding client's needs and designing a solution to fit
  • Software assessment (if a new software product is to be used in a project, eg reporting tools)
  • Informal Training / Handholding while new system is bedded in (eg on-site once per week/fortnight)
  • Account Management (visiting existing clients on a quarterly basis to check they are happy)
  • Liaison with developers and driving the agreed solution forward
  • Understanding of integration requirements from a business data perspective
  • Testing, data setup, application configuration
  • Helping client to perform user acceptance testing (and turning up once a week to make them do it!)
  • Data migration (if technical background - see desirable skills below)

Technical skills (desirable but not essential):

  • Good understanding of IT from a business level with knowledge of SQL Server and SQL Server Reporting Services
