In March, Computer Futures Tokyo partnered with Security Days as a sponsor in their “Security Days Spring 2018” in Tokyo. This was a three-day event that specialised within the security market. Various security companies participated as exhibitors, and many of them were mainly focusing on Internet of Things (IoT) and Mobile Device Management (MDM).

One of the most popular session in the event was conducted by Madoka Sawa, Director of Microsoft Technology Center Japan. This session covered an initiative which Prime Minister Abe brought about this year called “Hatarakikata-kaikaku” meaning Work style reform. As an aging population continues to surge in Japan, he touched on how we can work more efficiently to sustain the third biggest economy in the world with a smaller workforce. In collaboration with the CEO of Speaker, Sawa also talked about the ways that we can utilise security software within Digitalisation.

At this event, individuals and organisations within the security field were able to network and understand more about what the latest trends within IoT and MDM were. IoT specifically, is a sector that is predicted to create many new opportunities for security companies. This will also lead to an increase in demand for individuals with IoT experience as they often possess very niche skill-sets.

In addition, with the Tokyo Olympic Games coming up in 2020, there has been a common theme of interest – malware infections. This has placed an even greater importance on security companies and the need for them to ensure a ‘safe’ Tokyo.

With the above mentioned, companies have started to explore various interesting ways to attract and secure the best talent in the market. This applies to both foreign-affiliated companies and local Japanese organisations who are looking to expand in Japan, and potentially Asia. The ability to get approvals for headcount could potentially act as a barrier for clinching the best talent in the fastest time possible as companies still look to push their costs down. This will ultimately affect the growth of security companies which organisations would need to overcome in order to achieve long-term goals.
