General Description
The Product Owner works as the liaison between the customer, other key stakeholders and the development team to understand the business needs and prioritize the backlog tasks related to a software development effort and/or other key tasks in relation to project work. This prioritization is based on their understanding of the customer's needs as well as the overall corporate strategic goals and priorities of client The Product Owner possesses an in-depth knowledge of both the business and the external marketplace and aligns project efforts to clients' strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Liaison & Communication
* Represents, interfaces with and engages the business owner and other key stakeholders
* Acts as a fully integrated Agile team member
* Understands both the business need and the desired outcome driving the overall project and uses this knowledge to establish clear goals that communicate the sprint vision at the beginning of every release and sprint so that the team understands the desired outcome
* Makes tactical project decisions and clearly communicates requirements through epics and stories so they are understood
* Communicates project status outside the team, and most importantly to the business owner and key stakeholders
* Participates as a resource to the Portfolio Management Group
* Creates user stories and acceptance criteria from themes and features granular enough for a single sprint
* Creates, forecasts, and tracks releases
* Decides which user stories are scheduled into sprints and in what order based on regular communication with the business owner and key stakeholders
* Provides rapid feedback to the development team and is the voice of the customer
* Participates in project planning, daily stand-up meetings (scrums), reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, demos and other Scrum-related meetings
* Reviews the product increment after every sprint, and has the authority to accept or reject
* Regularly communicates with the business owner to ensure clear understanding of the business objective and to affirm the backlog prioritization is in-line with the business need
* Provides progress reporting to business users and the Portfolio Management Group

* Creates, maintains, prioritizes and sequences the product backlog
* Provides guidance and recommendations on team roles and the composition of team membership/skill set
* Steers the project to ensure delivery of business value and strategic priority based on ongoing communication with the business owner and key stakeholders
* Provides encouragement, recognition and support to the team
* Changes the course of the project or sprint when necessary
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Special projects and duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Personal Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in business administration or other business-related field and five years of experience in the insurance industry or equivalent experience
* Two or more years' experience in agile development methodologies, values and procedures
* Two or more years' project management experience or five or more years of experience in related stakeholder function
* Strong oral and written communication skills, including active listening, to effectively represent all stakeholders and communicate among cross-functional groups
* Ability to make decisions and provide direction based upon established business objectives
* Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle
* Ability to understand business and technical issues
* Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and miscellaneous office equipment
