The IT Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for effective oversight, provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure.

TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 8+ years' experience in IT end-user and network support
  • Knowledge of networking and security, including TCP/IP, AFP, SMB, NFS, SFTP, SCP, SSH, SSL
  • IP Networking concepts and setup configuration of: Firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, DNS, DHCP
  • Experience with providing network security, including providing patches, anti-virus software, firewalls and password protection
  • Solid Windows 7/10 and Mac OS administration, setup and troubleshooting in a multi-domain environment
  • Installing / configuring / managing desktop applications
  • Understanding of App-V and MSI
  • Windows Server 2012-2016 with emphasis on: Active Directory user management, Group Policy, Remote Desktop Services, Print Servers, File sharing and security
  • Office 365 cloud platform
  • Experience with MS Suite (Word, Outlook, Office, SharePoint)
  • Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
  • Knowledge and ability to provide support for various software packages including Microsoft products, Cisco Jabber, Webex, Citrix Receiver

Areas of Responsibility:

SA Engineering and Provisioning:

  • Image Management
  • Engage with System/Network Admin Vendors, recommend system improvements and processes
  • Configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, SAN storage, etc.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
  • Research innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks
  • Assist in the management of existing servers, and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, storage, etc.
  • Support various on premise server software solutions (WSUS, AD, DHCP, MS SCCM, Uniflow)

Operations and Support:

  • Perform daily monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Provide Tier II/III/other support per request from various constituencies as needed. Investigate and troubleshoot issues
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies
  • Work across a broad range of technologies and liaises across multiple areas of the business to support incidents, problems and requests
  • Install, upgrade, and secure operating systems software and applications as needed
  • Support various on premise software solutions
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
  • Install appropriate firewalls, password protections, and anti-virus software
  • Install patch updates as appropriate
  • Ensure computer security as necessary, for example, by eliminating unnecessary services, minimizing unencrypted authentication, prevent unauthenticated email relays and uncontrolled access to proxy services, and providing for physical security

Maintenance:

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required

Printer Management:

  • Provide technical and operational oversight to distribution print managed service provider.
  • Assist with firmware and driver maintenance on all supported print servers
  • Configure various server and client operating systems for printing
  • Install, configure, and maintain network printers as needed

General Duties:

  • Assist in troubleshooting hardware, software and network problems
  • Collaborate with network engineers, architects and other team members on the implementation, testing, deployment and integration of network and server systems
  • Coordinate with other teams or departments to resolve user problems
  • Document, track, and monitor IT problems using applicable systems and tools
  • Evaluate and test stability of new products
  • Ensure that optimal inventory, and equipment management systems and processes are in place to support operations
