On Wednesday the 23rd January, Computer Futures newest group, Data Points, successfully held their first event in Dublin. Data Points is made up of a dedicated team of consultants committed to sharing the latest events, insights, and jobs in the Irish data market. The group was formed in November 2018, with the aim of bringing like-minded individuals together to share knowledge and insights to benefit the community. After months of work, the group recently decided to hold their own event and invited fellow industry thought leaders to launch the community.
The team were delighted to welcome Alessandra Sala, from Nokia Bell labs, Luca Boschin Co-founder from Logograb, and Stephen Oman, Director of Data Analytics from Travelport. Each individual shared their own case study of examples and approaches to using data within their respective companies. Alessandra discussed examples of using wearable technology, while Stephen emphasised the importance of keeping data ‘clean’, ‘starting small’ and be conscious of ‘uncertainty’.
We spoke to Conor Mulloy founding member of Data Points and Senior Recruitment Consultant at Computer Futures, “We learned that ‘more data usually beats a better algorithm’ isn’t always true. Focusing on one small problem and solving that rather than taking on everything at once is a great way to move forward”. Luke Sheehy and Shauna Ennis are also members of the group.
Data Points are planning on holding a quarterly event in both Dublin and Cork and currently working on a Grad event and an event in Galway. You can sign up now for the Cork event here!
